Main Uses

Construction field: It is an important component of construction mortar and concrete, which can enhance the strength and durability of concrete. It is used in building foundations, floors, walls and other structures. It can also be used to prepare corrosion-resistant mortar, mastic, other corrosion-resistant materials and refractory materials, etc.

● Glass manufacturing: It is one of the key raw materials for glass production, used in manufacturing various types of glass, including flat glass, container glass, optical fibers and solar panels, etc.

● Industrial field: High-purity quartz sand is used in the production of semiconductor chips and other electronic devices, serving as materials for substrates, photolithographic masks and chemical vapor deposition reactors. In addition, in oil and gas extraction, quartz sand acts as an important granular filler in the oil well fracturing process, used to form channels in rock fractures to facilitate the flow of oil and gas.

● Water treatment field: It is used as a filter medium in water treatment processes, applied in various scenarios such as water purification, sewage treatment, swimming pool filtration and drinking water treatment, to remove suspended particles, impurities and microorganisms.

● Other fields: It can also be used in fields such as sandpaper, abrasive tools, casting, ceramic manufacturing, cosmetics, crystal production, quartz clocks and scientific laboratories, etc.

Basic Overview

Definition: Quartz sand is quartz particles formed by crushing and processing quartz stone. Its main component is silica, presenting as transparent and translucent crystals with various forms. The content of detrital quartz is over 85%, and it is in an uncemented loose state.

● Properties: Quartz sand is a silicate mineral with hardness, wear resistance and stable chemical properties. It is insoluble in acids (but slightly soluble in KOH solution), with a melting point as high as 1750℃, a Mohs hardness of 7 and a density of 2.65. It is mostly milky white or colorless and translucent, brittle without cleavage, with a conchoidal fracture and a greasy luster.

Classification: According to purity, it can be divided into ordinary quartz sand, refined quartz sand, high-purity quartz sand, etc.; according to origin, it can be divided into natural quartz sand, artificial quartz sand, etc.; according to application, it can be divided into industrial quartz sand, construction quartz sand, filter quartz sand, artificial stone quartz sand, etc.
