● Low density: The bulk density of ceramsite generally ranges from 300 to 900 kg/m³, much lower than that of ordinary sand, gravel and other aggregates. This allows it to effectively reduce the self-weight of buildings when used as a construction material.
● High strength: Despite its low density, ceramsite has high compressive strength and flexural strength, which can meet the requirements of different engineering applications. For example, high-strength ceramsite can be used in structural components of high-rise buildings.
● Excellent thermal insulation performance: The porous internal structure of ceramsite endows it with good thermal insulation properties, which can effectively reduce building energy consumption and improve indoor comfort. In the field of building insulation, ceramsite is often used to produce insulation blocks, insulation boards and other materials.
● Good fire resistance: Ceramsite has a high refractoriness, is not easy to burn or deform in high-temperature environments, and can be used in the production of fire-resistant materials such as fire partitions and firebricks.
Good water permeability and water retention: In horticulture, the water permeability and water retention of ceramsite make it an ideal soilless culture medium. ● Soilless culture medium: As a soilless culture medium, ceramsite provides an excellent root growth environment for plants, with advantages such as good air permeability, strong water retention, and freedom from diseases and pests. It can be used for cultivating flowers, vegetables and other plants.
● Soil improver: Adding ceramsite to soil can improve soil permeability and water drainage, increase soil porosity, and promote the growth and development of plant roots. At the same time, ceramsite can adsorb harmful substances in the soil, playing a role in soil purification.
● Sewage treatment: Ceramsite has a large specific surface area and adsorption performance, enabling it to adsorb pollutants such as organic matter and heavy metal ions in sewage. It can be used in processes such as biological filters and adsorption tanks in sewage treatment plants to improve sewage treatment efficiency.
● Landfill cover material: Ceramsite can be used as a cover material for landfills, with good water permeability and air permeability. It can prevent the leakage of landfill leachate and reduce the emission of odors from landfills.
